The International Rubber Study Group (IRSG) is pleased to announce #IRSGforResearch a call for rubber-related economic research. .This award aims to promote high-quality research on emerging issues in the global rubber sector and engage young economists and researchers in the assessment of socio-economic issues affecting the rubber sector globally.
The research paper should cover a relevant topic related to the broader sustainability framework and sustainable development of the rubber sector. While candidates have freedom to choose their own topics, provided they are relevant for the rubber sector, preference will be given to those papers addressing research questions that fall under the thematic focus chosen by IRSG.
The thematic focus chosen for this year is: “How can rubber smallholders achieve sustainable development through rubber farming.”
“This is a project of great importance to IRSG – said Salvatore Pinizzotto, IRSG Secretary-General – as it aims to generate innovative approaches to address development related issues in rubber producing countries and the contribution of the rubber sector to the Sustainable Development Goals that are the cornerstone of the IRSG Sustainability Agenda”.
“The smallholders are at the very core of the rubber industry – Sandana Dass, CEO, R1 International commented – and yet we are lacking innovative and practical solutions to alleviate their hardship, especially during low rubber prices. I hope this call for an independent study can offer some sound ideas that can be implemented for their betterment.”
The IRSGforResearch is open to all economists and researchers in social sciences who are in the process of completing a PhD or who have completed their degree in the last five years, with proven interest in the area of rubber economics. The candidate should submit a paper in English which should not exceed 15,000 words.
All submissions should be sent to IRSGforResearch@rubberstudy.com not later than February 20, 2020. Results will be announced on May 2, 2020. The winner of the award will be presented with SGD3,000 and an Award Certificate.
The funds for this project are fully granted by R1 International. R1 International is the market leader in the value chain management of natural rubber, offering a plethora of grades from diverse origination, to its customers globally.
